Himachal Pradesh is a state in the northern part of India. Situated in the Western Himalayas, it is one of the thirteen mountain states and is characterised by an extreme landscape featuring several peaks and extensive river systems.

While traditionally Himachal was known as a summer destination, the Department of Tourism & Civil Aviation has taken special efforts to break the seasonality factor and has developed diversified tourism products to attract tourists in other seeasons too.

Now Himachal is known as "A Desination for All Seasons and All Reasons" In Fact, the Department has laid a special emphasis on the development of activity-based tourism and opening up of new sub destinations. To promote tourism in the countryside and to unexplored areas, appropriate infrastructure is being developed within available resources.

  Sheltered by the ranges, rivers and their feeding tributary streams have carved out some of the most serene, scenic and fertile valley. The high mountain desert valley of spiti, the scenic Sangla valley of kinnaur, the charming Beas valley of Kullu - manali and Mandi, the indulgent land of Kangra Valley, the aesthetically cut out Chamba valley and Lahual valley, crowded with some of the biggest glaciers in the entire Himalayas, is the backdrop of Himachal Pradesh.

  Nurtured by centuries of tradition, the warm and hospitable people of Himachal Pradesh celebrate life in hosting a variety of fairs and festivals to sometimes honour gods and goddesses and on many other occasions to socialize by making the season, be it with hope when spring is breaking out or by dancing and dinning after the harvests bounty is done with.

  For sheer geographic diversity, few places in the world are as richly endowed as Himachal Pradesh. Rivers cutting through deep gorges, placid mountain lakes, thick forests, acres of scree, snow capped mountains piercing the skyline, sheep scattered like cotton fluffs over alpine pastures, all excite the spirit for outdoor activities, sports and adventure.A stress buster or a challenging adventure, for the beginner or an expert, there is an activity, a sport, an adventure for one and all out there.
